I think my thoughts were the same as most when it came to boudoir that it is all sexy, naked pictures for men, or women, to look at. When I found out Alex was transitioning to boudoir after we booked her for our wedding, I thought, hey what a great gift for my husband for our wedding he will love it! Let me tell you, I was wrong about boudoir, but I am so glad I was.
So, Alex was switching to boudoir full time, and we LOVED her from the moment we met her and felt an instant connection, of course I was all about giving my husband some sexy photos to unveil the night before our wedding!!
We had already booked Alex so I knew her somewhat so the consultation wasn’t necessarily a meet and greet but more about what I was about to experience with her…
We went over what was included in the session, all of the fees for packages, add ons, payment plans, etc and the whole time she kept asking if I had any questions. After she gave all the information she needed too she then pivoted a tad to talk about why she got into boudoir and what I could expect on the actual day. We talked about hair and makeup but then she asked why I wanted this shoot. I stated for my husband. We talked a little about that but then she wanted to know what I wanted from the shoot. I said something my husband will love to look at. I remember her answering “but what about you? What do you love about yourself that you want highlighted?” That was the first time I started to realize boudoir may be more than just really hot pictures. We hung up and I felt so excited to get to my shoot. I was so excited to be in the studio with Alex. I almost caved and told my husband I was doing this because of how excited I was.
Finally, the morning of the shoot arrived and I packed up my bag of outfits that I had chosen and headed off to “work”. It was actually nerve racking leaving my house pretending to go to work knowing I would be pretty much naked in front of a camera in less than an hour. I pulled into the studio and Alex met me at the door and I remember being so nervous. I had been excited up until that point and then I was like oh boy it’s real. I walked into the studio with her and everything changed….
I felt almost immediately at ease. The room was so inviting and open, Alex was so peppy and excited to do this that it made me feel like I was with a friend just goofing around. She offered me a drink and I sat down while Emily started on my makeup and Heidi on my hair. They both were so professional, but in a way that again, made it feel like I was just hanging out with friends. I wish I could explain the atmosphere that morning but the best way is to have you think about when you were little sitting in your room with one or two friends playing with Barbie’s or gossiping over boys.
That was the energy and it was amazing.
The girls left and Alex had me change into my first outfit. She provided a robe and slippers so that I did not immediately have to be exposed if I did not want too. It should be noted that the entire time Alex was so focused on my comfortability. From showing me the poses by actually getting into them, to just simply asking if I was okay. Every time she showed a pose I was like okay, I can do that, and once I was in it, if I couldn’t she would help to change it slightly so that I was able too (I am not flexible at all).
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much than when I did during the session. I did not book any add ons or anything extra but Alex had just gotten some new pieces, including some wings and such and she was like “let’s try them” I said okay and away we went. At that point I trusted her with what we were doing I think I would have let her photograph me in whatever or with whatever. The point here is I went into the shoot wanting to be cute and sexy for my husband and I ended up goofing around taking pictures with a friend.
